Richard Meier & Partners Model Archive

Long Island City, New York

2007 - 2013

This raw exhibit space occupying 3,600 square feet featured work from the 1960s, including the first model for the Smith House (1965) in Connecticut, one of the early projects which established Meier’s reputation, through the present. Most prominent in the studio were the large scale presentation models and study models of the Getty Center (1984 – 1997), which was 13 years in the making and is widely regarded as Mr. Meier’s most ambitious project.

Visitors were informally invited into the space in May 2007 and interest in the gallery during its initial four month opening was so enthusiastic that the project evolved into a seasonal exhibition. This warehouse is now closed and the collection has been permanently relocated to the new Richard Meier Model Museum at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, New Jersey.
