Stuttgart Residences

Stuttgart, Germany

2016 - 2021

In August 2016, Wohnbaustudio commissioned Richard Meier & Partners Architects LLP for the design of a condominium building in Stuttgart, Germany.  The triangular land is about 1,570 sqm and is located in the north of Stuttgart on a south facing hillside. The building plot fits into a loosely built residential area with freestanding single- and multi-family residences of 2-3 stories with gardens.

The new building consists of six levels: four residential levels, one underground parking level, and a basement level with adjoining rooms. The required setback line determines its orientation in east-west direction. The building is oriented with its public living areas to the south, with a panoramic view over Stuttgart. North to the communal garden are the private areas such as bedrooms and bathrooms. All apartments have private access to outside areas in the form of terraces and balconies. The local contexts and the topographical context are central to the design of the building. Prevailing factors of influence, such as geometries, building regulations, as well as the tradition of neighboring buildings are included as analogies in the planning and further development at the site.  The goal of Richard Meier & Partners is to illustrate this vision to realize a project that will make a meaningful architectural contribution to Stuttgart.
