Richard Meier has designed a collection of elegant household objects for Belgian design firm When Objects Work. This small yet inspired line debuted at the Milan Design Fair in the Spring of 2010. Working alongside WOW’s Director Beatrice de Lafontaine, Meier has created a range of products from silver candlesticks and bonbonnieres to glass bowls and white marble trays.
“The inspiration behind this collection is the cross section between beauty and functionality,” said Meier. “Architecture is art, but it has to be functional. Objects should carry the same philosophy. They should work perfectly in all environments, be useful yet elegant, and help to create a sense of event.”
Elegant for its simplicity, the large white marble tray is a true reflection of Meier’s work. The Celebration Tray, part of the silver collection, is a silver-plated oval tray in French polished black walnut, with a high gloss finish achieved through building up multiple laters of shellac. The substantial yet delicate crystal tumblers come in a set of six, etched with Richard Meier’s signature grid design, are a perfect accent to any cocktail party. The silver candlesticks and bonbonniere are exquisite and unique pieces that make the perfect gift. The products will be available through the website: www.whenobjectswork.com
